I visited on a rather drab day, however this did not diminish the fact that this was one beautiful building! As one walks through it feels a though you are walking in a sculpture. The vertical planes intersect at various levels, and the concrete seems to slide into each other just seamlessly and effortlessly.
On another level, the gallery executes the water motif in such elegance and tranquil manner. As a viewer you are gently and gradually immersed in the gallery's surroundings, it is a symbolic departure from the suburban surrounds to the artistic realm. The use of water further enhances this experience through the use of gradation, at the front entrance you are welcomed in with a still water feature and as you descend the use of water becomes more rapid and cinematic.
I really think this is the building which architecture is all about: the emotional experiences in space
I thought I might add this...it's rare to see the ticketing booths in magazines!
But I think it gives us a sense of the everyday, which is sweet as well
