Childrens Library+Art Room

Year Two
Childrens Library+Art Room

A design for a new arts program for a local school.
The emphasis was on a therapeutic design, that would result in a positive contribution to the school community.
The building aims to encourage healthy eating- when this is addressed the benefits certainly will flow into the other facets of the students life. The wide open windows face out toward the kitchen garden which the students use for the canteen. The protruding bay windows are little nooks when students want a little hide away while they're absorbed in a book. It also encourages interaction with the beautiful fig tree close by to the building. I can't think of anything better than sitting under a tree watching the sunlight dance through the branches with a good book to read!

Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed this project.
It was an architectural project that encouraged us to take a step back and breathe
and also appreciate the natural environment.

A lot of time was put in with research on how children interact with space.
One notable architect was Aldo Van Eyck, who designed many buildings that put an element of fun and playfulness that encouraged learning and curiosity for his school/orphanages.
