Interview

Hello, I went for an interview today!! Was so excited I did a little squeal after the call. Got asked yesterday and went to their office this morning. Overall I think it went alright. It was certainly one of my longer interviews - a whole hour! I made my best to listen to what the interviewers were saying so it was somewhat draining concentration-wise. Tried my best to answer in a mature and engaging way. I was more prepared to this interviews than most I've been to, I got some positive, nice feedback on my portfolio which is encouraging. Probably need to practice with family/friends with my interview speaking skills. I was a bundle of nerves right before the interview, but leaving the office I felt great and free having finished the interview. The practice seemed reasonable and decent place to work.

I got asked specific questions today, why did you take a year off in your studies, what are your expectations of this position since you have completed your masters degree, why are you starting your job search now instead of whilst you were a student?

As you can see, a lot of the questions here were primarily directed to my lack of experience despite my completion of an architecture degree. And my reasons behind it.

I can understand the line of thought that it is not unusual for students to have attempted professional experience whilst studying. But in all honestly, not all students pursue this course and I was not one to do this. It felt right focussing on my studies and not having the excess worry of paid work on top of uni work. I had a really flexible work environment which enabled me work during breaks. I don't regret any of this. I feel like I am now prepared to make my steps into the industry than earlier. When the recession hit the construction job market a few years back, I had just finished my undergrad, it bought hesitation about working and casted doubts on my skill sets. There was nothing wrong with my abilities , I was doing well in my studies but the economy put in a lack of confidence with procuring a job and sustaining it. And here all this time I had a stable, understanding workplace I could rely on. So I stayed there and saved up for an trip and volunteer opportunity instead. Now, I am ready to move on from my uni job that supported me. During that time I am able to say my software aptitude has increased, and am more perceptive in view about securing work in architecture.  I guess that is really the long story behind it.

I am going to type up all my interview answers in preparation!!
After that I went into the city and browsed around. Bumped into an old school friend working at the department store.

Good night!
