Sooo, in any case, one of the highlights while I was in Copenhagen was the Design Museum.
Situated in the city centre, the museum provides a history and insight into Danish design.
When I visited, half of the building was undergoing some works so I was unable to view most of the permanent collection. However, the featured exhibition was an excellent exhibit that it did not matter that the permanent collection was off display.
The Wegner exhibition curated the works of the Danish furniture designer Hans Wegner. He is widely known for the design of his chairs (including the wishbone chair). I love the simple aesthetic and well-crafted design of this chairs. The exhibition explained the functional nature of his designs as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this exhibition and the museum itself. Probably one of the most comprehensively curated exhibitions I've been to. Years ago, I went to an Braun exhibition in Osaka with a relative. Unfortunately, I don't remember a lot of it. The exhibit space was very white, only saw about three people and we kind of rushed through.
I digress.
If you studied architecture or have an interest in well-crafted furniture, it is definitely worthwhile to visit the museum. The gallery shop and cafe was very nice too, cosy looking.
Unassuming frontage
Upon entry, a giant Wegner chair.
Jacobsen, I think.
Very spacious inside.
Early work, very Japanese-inspired.
Of what was kept in the permanent collection. LOVED the ticket system, a little chair sticker. I went on another day to revisit the gift shop and they had a different chair sticker as tickets. How adorable. Entry was free for students!
Ciao! x
